Wanna stand out in a world full of digital media? Let's get crazy (in the best sort of way). Let's build something memorable!
The top 5 elements that build a strong, memorable poster:
1. Faces --
Studies have shown that having faces in an image will automatically make it more memorable than that of just an object or landscape. Our eyes are also, naturally, drawn to the brightest point of an image, so well lit faces with darker elements surrounding is key.
2. Bold Contrast --
We touched on this above, clean and clear separation (bright against dark) -- you'll notice in all of my images, the subject's outline is clearly illuminated in contrast to any background elements. This is intentional to keep the subject the main focal point. Bright colors will also play a factor.
3. Familiar Themes --
Pop culture (timeless/classic and modern recognizable branding -- think Star Wars, Ghost Busters, The Simpsons, TikTok trends, popular gaming, etc.).
Team Colors (for sports posters this is pretty standard. ;) )
Iconic poses and/or recognizable sports cues.
4. Movement / Energy --
Action shots, dynamic stances, glistening sweat, fierce / bold facial expressions.
5. Emotion / Storytelling --
Grit, victory, perseverance, passion, and/or 'team spirit'. If there is a way to incorporate a story into your poster symbolizing hard work, passion and determination, do it -- everybody loves rooting for a "hero"! (Look what Caitlyn Clark did for Women's basketball!)
There's so much more that goes into drawing attention than just copy + paste.
Don't get lost in the crowd.
